DESCRIPTION:Born in Wisconsin in 1868$1 Edward S. Curtis developed an early interest in\nphotography. At the age of twelve$1 he built his own camera using a lens his\nfather brought home from the Civil War. By the age of seventeen$1 he began\nhis formal apprenticeship in photography. Within three short years$1 he\nlaunched his own studio$1 Curtis and Guptill$1 Photographers and\nPhotoengravers. However$1 his big break came in 1906$1 when he partnered with\nJ.P. Morgan on a lifelong project that would make national\nheadlines&mdash$1The North American Indian.
